J. Douglas Bate. - Managing Principal
Doug is a Founder of The Visterra Group, a Boston-based company dedicated to advancing the practice of strategy innovation in corporations. As the Managing Partner, Doug oversees the development and delivery of a variety of customized services for strategy innovation, including the process of identifying new business opportunities and the creation of internal capabilities for strategy innovation.
Previously, as an associate with IdeaScope Associates, Doug led numerous corporate teams on worldwide journeys in the discovery and creation of significant new business opportunities through the process of strategy innovation. His experience with IdeaScope included work with 3M, IBM, Kodak, Procter & Gamble, Schott Glaswerke, and Hewlett-Packard, among others.
Prior to founding The Visterra Group, Doug worked with major corporations around the world in the identification and development of new products and strategic business opportunities. In addition to being an independent consultant for 15 years, Doug has held marketing research positions at Gillette, Chesebrough-Ponds, and Parker Brothers, where he developed the company's first marketing research capability.
Doug received his AB from Dartmouth College and his MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.
